Manmohan Singh Memorial Row: Rahul Gandhi Blasts BJP, Sparks Outrage Over Memorial Controversy | ABP News
Former Prime Minister and architect of economic reforms, Dr. Manmohan Singh, was laid to rest with state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat on Saturday, December 28, 2024. However, his cremation site and the proposal for a memorial have sparked political controversy. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the government, accusing it of disrespecting Dr. Singh.
In a post on X, Gandhi stated, "Dr. Manmohan Singh, India's first Sikh Prime Minister and a true son of Bharat Mata, was denied the dignity of a designated memorial site, unlike his predecessors. As PM for a decade, he transformed India into an economic powerhouse. His policies continue to uplift the underprivileged. The government should honor him with the highest respect, including a Bharat Ratna and an appropriate memorial."
