Jahangirpuri demolition drive: What did shopkeepers say about sudden action? | Matrabhumi

The anti-encroachment campaign came to an end just hours after the Supreme Court ordered that demolition in Jahangirpuri be paused, with the apex court hearing the case on Thursday. Days after community conflicts erupted in the region, the demolition campaign began. On Wednesday morning, security was heightened throughout the city, particularly in Jahangirpuri. The CRPF has deployed 12 companies (about 1,250 jawans) throughout the city in two shifts, the majority in and around Jahangirpuri.

Background:

A Delhi court directed the police to ensure that the probe into the Jahangirpuri clashes was carried out fairly in an order remanding two men in police custody for two days on Tuesday. The court sentenced Ansar and Saleem to two days in police prison, finding that "arrest and detention are justifiable on the basis of the reasons stated in the application." Furthermore, the investigating agency is directed to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly."
