An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Kamkari area of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday. Reports indicate that five soldiers, including a Major, were injured, with one jawan martyred. The Army stated that the clash occurred on a forward post in the Kamkari area of the Machhal sector along the Line of Control (LOC). During the exchange of fire, one Pakistani militant was killed. The Army revealed that the Border Action Team of the Pakistani Army was aiding a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate Indian territory. During a subsequent search operation, two more soldiers were injured. The search continues as some terrorists are feared to have fled into the forest. This encounter follows a series of recent clashes in the region.
