High-Speed Asteroid Apophis Approaching Earth In 2029, What Is The Mission & Safeguard? | ABP News

Scientists research all the planets in space, exploring its mysterious realm. Recently, ISRO has reported that a high-speed asteroid is heading towards Earth. This poses a significant threat, as the asteroid, named Apophis after the Egyptian deity of destruction, is approximately 305 meters wide. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is keen on studying this asteroid and participating in missions to safeguard the planet. ISRO's scientists aim to better understand it, with ISRO Chief Somanath stating that by 2029, when Apophis makes its approach, humanity should be capable of reaching and studying the asteroid. He highlighted that this will be a unique opportunity for humanity to engage with an asteroid, and India should be involved in such efforts. Although the specifics of India’s role are still undecided, the asteroid, often referred to as a "time capsule," contains remnants from the early solar system. Studying it could provide valuable insights into the formation of our world.
