Bandipore: Boat race organized as part of carnival ahead of World Environment Day
A boat race was organised at Asia's largest fresh water lake, the Wular Lake in Bandipore district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, as part of a carnival ahead of world environment day on June 5th. Bandipore is currently hosting a four day environment carnival jointly organised by the Wular Conservation and Management Authority and the Forest Department. "The boat race hosted today is part of the environmental carnival observed in the Bandipora district. This is an outreach programme through which we are spreading environmental awareness. The slogan for today's race was 'Plastic-free Wular'. Our racers, including children from local villages, participated in the race, striving for a plastic-free Bandipora," says District Forest Officer. Many children from nearby local villages participated in the boat race, which aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution in Wular Lake. The winners of the race were felicitated on the conclusion of the race.
