UP Bypolls 2024: Major police action in Meerapur riot, FIR registered against 28 people including 4 women
Police and voters confronted one other in numerous locations during the UP by-election. Similar election-related chaos was also observed in Muzaffarnagar's Meerapur assembly seat, where local police have finally begun to take action. A case has been filed by Muzaffarnagar police against 28 identifiable individuals and between 100 and 120 unidentified individuals, majority of whom are women. According to the police official, a formal BNS FIR has been filed against each of these. On November 20, 2024, the residents of Kakaroli village are accused of causing a disturbance over voting. Voting for their respective candidates caused conflict between two parties. The public became enraged and threw stones at the police when they attempted to persuade them, injuring numerous officers.
