Priyanka Gandhi's entry into the political arena as the Congress candidate for the Wayanad by-election has sparked significant discussion in political circles. Various debates are ongoing, especially since her brother Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, previously held the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. According to regulations, he had to vacate this seat after the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and chose to retain his seat in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. This is why by-elections are now taking place for that constituency.

To challenge Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Navya Haridas from Wayanad. Haridas was also fielded by the BJP in the 2021 assembly elections, where she finished third in the Kozhikode South constituency. Additionally, Navya Haridas has served as a councilor in the Kozhikode cooperative sector.
