AAP To Contest Delhi Elections Solo: Kejriwal Says 'There Won't Be Any Alliance'

Arvind Kejriwal announced that his Aam Aadmi Party will contest the upcoming Delhi assembly elections independently, without forming any alliances with other political parties.

Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced his party will contest the upcoming Delhi elections independently without any alliance partner of the INDIA bloc. The party had earlier contested polls solo in Haryana after it failed to reach a consensus on a seat-sharing arrangement with Congress.

"There will be no alliance in Delhi (for assembly elections)," Kejriwal said addressing a press conference on Sunday.

The elections to the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly are scheduled to take place in February next year with the Election Commission of India yet to announce the dates.

The Aam Aadmi Party has already begun preparing for the elections with the announcement of the first list of candidates last month.

A total of 11 candidates have been named in the first list including six turncoats who switched sides with AAP from either Bharatiya Janata Party or Congress.

Brahm Singh Tanwar (Chhatarpur), Anil Jha (Kirari), and BB Tyagi (Laxmi Nagar) had recently quit the BJP to join the AAP. Zubair Chaudhary (Seelampur), Veer Singh Dhingan (Seemapuri), and Somesh Shokeen (Matiala) left the Congress and joined AAP.

Kejriwal On Liquid Attack On Him

Speaking on the attack that was made on him the previous day, Kejriwal said he expected Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take action on the issue of law and order that he raised but was instead attacked.

"I had this expectation that Amit Shah would take some action after I raised the issue (law & order)... But, instead of that, I was being attacked during my padayatra. Liquid was thrown at me, it was harmless, but it could have been harmful," Kejriwal said.

On Saturday, a man splashed some liquid on Arvind Kejriwal during his 'padayatra' in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar. AAP claimed that it was the spirit and the "attacker" wanted to set the party supremo afire.

The accused, identified as Ashok Jha, a serving bus marshal at Delhi Transport Corporation's Khanpur Depot was detained, said the police.
