In Haryana, the BJP is confident of retaining power, while the Congress, buoyed by exit poll predictions, is hoping for a comeback after 10 years. This election marks the first major direct contest between the BJP and Congress in the state after the Lok Sabha elections, and the results are expected to influence the political landscape in other states that are scheduled to go to polls in the coming months. This election is significant as it paves the way for the formation of the first elected government in the union territory after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The elections are being held five years after the erstwhile state was bifurcated into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
