While the steep rise in COVID-19 cases continues to pose unprecedented challenges, a health ministry report suggests that Tuberculosis, also known as TB, was deadlier than the novel Coronavirus in India, killing over 75,000 people in 2019. In four months TB claimed 20,000 lives across the country. Now, a new research says that Covid-19 pandemic may lead to 95,000 additional tuberculosis deaths in India in five years due to disruptions to health services, and delays to diagnosis and treatment.
