Months after locust attack in Pakistan in which crops were destroyed on a large scale in Punjab province in February, now India is battling the desert locusts in the country’s heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. India’s farms are facing a significant threat from a swarm of millions of locusts and the city of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh has been alerted to be prepared with chemicals for prevention of crop destruction. Last Year, Rajasthan faced a huge crisis due to a similar situation, and this year researchers say that the locusts have entered before time. Amidst the crisis of Coronavirus, this situation can lead to a locust plague, followed by an economic problem for the farmers. However, the situation has been intimated to the states and preventive measures are being taken.
