According to a 2018 WHO report, around 2.6 lakh people die each year due to alcohol, that is around 712 people everyday! When after 45 days of lockdown, the liquor store shutter were open, people greeted it by crowding and with zero regard to social distancing norms. The crowd gathered even before the shops open. Research also shows that in 25-50% of domestic abuse cases the perpetrator is under the influence of alcohol. National Crime Record Bureau has reported that 2018, 7193 cases of suicide were committed under the influence of drugs and alcohol. From the total suicide cases 5.3% is linked with alcohol.
