Currently, India is the 17th country to surpass the 20000 mark for positive coronavirus cases. At a time when scientists are working overtime in search of a vaccine for the disease and worldwide almost every country has enforced either a local or nationwide lockdown, herd immunity can be a possible strategy to beat the coronavirus. There are reports that Sweden and the UK have applied this technique. Now that there is news that cases are reducing in India, how viable is a further extension of the lockdown? Researchers say that in India if the virus can enter the population in a controlled manner then by November almost 60 percent of the population can become immune to the virus. Although India has not adopted this strategy yet, looking at the progress of restrictive testing it feels that day might not be far off.
