Expressing his excitement further Gustin said, that he has been fishing for almost 20 years now, but this is the first time he spotted a pink dolphin.
A rare pink dolphin graced the Gulf of Mexico’s waters last week, just off the coast of Louisiana. Thurman Gustin who has been fishing for more than 20 years spotted the mammal and took a video. In fact, two pink dolphins were spotted by Gustin in Cameron Parish near the Gulf of Mexico on July 12. The clop was later posted on the social networking site Facebook, which went viral.
Speaking to USA TODAY, Gustin said, "We were fishing down in Louisiana, near a channel that runs down to the Gulf of Mexico when I spotted something under the water that was really big and not the right colour. I couldn’t believe what I just saw, so I immediately took out my camera and started filming. After a while, it came closer to the boat. There were two of them − a big one and a small one."
Expressing his excitement further Gustin said, that he has been fishing for almost 20 years now, but this is the first time he spotted a pink dolphin.
"Saw 2 pink dolphins today! So amazing!," read the caption of the remarkable video shared by Gustin.
In the video one can see a pink dolphin briefly coming out of the water before diving back under.
It is not clear which dolphin Gustin saw, but albino bottlenose dolphins have been spotted in the area, with one seen often enough to have earned the nickname "Pinky", reported the USA TODAY
According to the Blue World Institute, there have only been about 20 or so sightings recorded since the mid-20th century due to the rare genetic mutation. Due to the uniqueness these dolphins garner human attention and, in some unfortunate instances, may be captured and held in captivity.
