UP Man Turns Up Drunk For His Wedding, Garlands Bride's Best Friend. What Happened Next

The incident happened in Naughwa Bhagwantpur village in Bareilly, where 26-year-old Ravindra Kumar, the groom, turned up late to his wedding and in a drunken state.

A wedding in Uttar Pradesh took a bizarre turn after the groom turned up drunk and garlanded his bride's best friend after turning up drunk during his wedding in Bareilly district.

The incident happened in Naughwa Bhagwantpur village in Bareilly, where 26-year-old Ravindra Kumar, the groom, turned up late to his wedding and in a drunken state, The Times of India reported.

The groom, even after arriving late for the wedding, continued lingering with his friend even as the 500 guests at the bride's house waited.

When the garland exchange ceremony began, Kumar turned to the wrong woman and placed the garland over the bride's best friend.

Amid the confusion which prevailed at the wedding ceremony, the groom then placed the garland around the neck of his male friend, who was standing beside him. Then, he garlanded an elderly guest at the wedding.

The bride, 21-year-old Radha Devi slapped the groom and walked off from the wedding. However, the bride's family had a different story to tell regarding the groom's behaviour at the wedding.

Omkar Verma, the bride's brother, said that though the family spent over Rs 10 lakh on the wedding, the groom was unhappy over the dowry gifts and wanted to humiliate them.

"They were unhappy with the dowry gifts. Maybe this was their way of humiliating us. And then we find out that he isn't even a farmer as his family told us-he's a truck driver," Omkar reportedly said.

The bride's family filed a complaint at the Kularia police station at 4 am. Kumar was subsequently taken into police custody and a medical test confirmed that he was drunk.

The wedding was called off the same morning and the groom was taken in police custody.

Circle Officer Harsh Modi said, "The groom was intoxicated. He misbehaved. His medical examination confirmed he was drunk. He was booked under sections of the Dowry Act."
