Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, received applause on social media for her response to Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel's joke. The Pakistani activist was there with her husband, Asser Malik, on Sunday. Kimmel Yousafzai while pretending to take questions from members of the public and posed what many social media users saw as an insensitive question. Yet, the 25-year-old handled the awkward situation gracefully. Yousafzai attended the Oscars to promote her documentary short 'Stranger at the Gate,' which was nominated.
The question concerned singer Harry Styles and Hollywood actor Chris Pine's alleged 'spit-gate' incident at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
"Your work on human rights and education for women and children is an inspiration. As the youngest Nobel prize winner in history, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?" he asked.
"I only talk about peace," Yousafzai said, looking uncomfortable.
Kimmel said, "You know what? That's why you're Malala and nobody else is. That's a great answer, Malala. The winner is malala-land, everybody. " Yousafzai later shared a clip of the event on her Twitter account.
"Treat people with kindness," the 25-year-old simply stated in the video.

Yousafzai told ABC before the event that she was determined to enjoy herself and that she was cheering for Austin Butler and Michelle Yeoh, as well as looking forward to watching Rihanna perform.
Yousafzai made her Oscars debut in a silver sequined Ralph Lauren gown with long sleeves. She accessorised with a massive silver diamond ring and a gold band, as well as a large emerald, and wore little make-up.
