Gurugram Woman Slams Uber Pets for Charging 5 Times More Than Regular Rides
Gurugram woman questions Uber Pets' steep pricing after being charged ₹530 for a 2 km ride, over 5 times the regular fare. Is it justified or just an added premium for pet owners?

A Gurugram woman recently raised concerns over the high pricing of Uber Pets, a service that allows passengers to travel with their pets. While the feature offers convenience for pet owners, the woman was shocked to discover the massive price difference between a standard Uber ride and an Uber Pets ride for the same distance. The woman took to LinkedIn to share her experience. She compared the cost of a short 2 km ride, revealing that a regular Uber ride cost ₹100, while an Uber Pets ride for the same distance was priced at ₹530 — more than five times higher.

“I was booking an Uber the other day and noticed their new feature, Uber Pets, a service that allows riders to bring their pets along. Sounds great, right? Well, not when you look at the price. I did a price comparison for a 2 km distance. A regular Uber cab costs Rs 100, while Uber Pets costs Rs 530. That’s 5.3x the price just to have your pet with you. Meanwhile, my local auto wala will take us for 60 Rs and give my dog some belly rubs,” she wrote.
Her post questioned the rationale behind the steep pricing, suggesting that the increased cost could be due to added cleaning fees, a premium for pet-friendly drivers, or simply an extra charge targeting pet owners.
“I’m just curious, if the goal was accessibility, why is this service a luxury? What justifies this massive jump? Is it extra cleaning fees? A premium for pet-friendly drivers? Or just another way to squeeze more money out of pet owners? For many, pets are family and they shouldn’t have to pay an absurd premium just to travel together,” she added.
According to Uber’s official website, Uber Pets rides are more expensive than regular rides because passengers bring their pets. The company states that the higher fare may reflect additional cleaning costs or compensation for drivers willing to accommodate pets. If a pet causes damage or leaves excessive hair or mess in the vehicle, the passenger could also be charged an additional cleaning fee.
Users Reaction To The Viral Post
The post has sparked a conversation online, with many pet owners expressing similar frustrations over the pricing disparity. And many users commented on her LinkedIn post for this unfair higher charges by Uber.
One of the users said, "I believe its got to do with the drivers too. Paw parents are many but not a lot of cab drivers are willing to have pets in their cars. But still there should be some capping on the price of cab." Whereas another one wrote, "Honestly when we used to travel with dogs, we used to inform the driver beforehand that we've got dogs and I'd rather go with a consenting driver than to go with someone who's least bothered about the safety of my furry babies."
