WATCH | Man Hits Bull With Wooden Stick During Jallikattu In Tamil Nadu, Arrested

A case was registered under the 'Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act' and the Madurai police made the arrest after an investigation.

New Delhi: The popular Jallikattu festival was conducted as part of Pongal celebrations in Tamil Nadu amid curbs imposed by the government due to rising Covid cases. Close to 80 people reported injuries and one person died during the festival.

Now, a video has surfaced in which a man can be seen attacking bulls with a stick in Palamedu in the Madurai district.

A case has been registered under the "Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act". Following preliminary investigation, the Madurai police arrested the person.

In the video, a man can be seen wielding a wooden stick and hitting bulls, with people surrounding the animal. This happened on January 15 on the second day of the Jallikattu event. The video was extensively shared on social media. Based on this, the police made inquiries and arrested the person.

For the Jallikattu festival, the Tamil Nadu government had said only 300 bulls could participate, and not more than 150 spectators would be allowed in the sports arena at a time. However, flouting the Covid norms, thousands of villagers gathered at the various Jallikattu events that were held across the state.
