Tamil Nadu: Class 12 Girl Who Was 'Forced To Clean Hostel Rooms' Kills Self, Warden Arrested
The girl who was admitted to a government hospital on January 15 did not tell her parents or doctors about consuming pesticides until two days ago.
Chennai: A 17-year-old girl allegedly ended her life after she was forced to clean the rooms of her hostel. She was a Class 12 student from Ariyalur, studying in a government-aided higher secondary school in Michaelpatti village in the Thanjavur district.
According to a report in Times of India, the girl consumed pesticide on January 9, and was admitted to a hospital where she died on Wednesday.
The police have arrested the warden, Sagayamary, on charges of abetment to suicide.
The girl was residing in a hostel run by the school because it was a long distance away from her home.
On January 9, when the girl was vomiting, she was given treatment at a clinic. However, after she continued to vomit the next day as well, the warden told her parents to take her home.

The family reportedly took her to multiple hospitals for treatment but her condition kept deteriorating. On January 15, she was referred to the Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital.
According to the ToI report, she hadn't yet told anyone about her alleged suicide attempt.
As the doctors kept asking her, she finally told them on January 18 that she had consumed pesticide, allegedly because warden Sagayamary tortured her, and forced her to clean all the rooms of the hostel, the report said.
The doctors, however, could not save her.
Based on the confession, the police booked and arrested the warden under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. She was produced in court and is now lodged in Trichy sub-jail.
