Telangana: Junior Doctors Stage Protest Wearing Helmets In Osmania Hospital After Ceiling Fan Falls On Colleague
The doctors alleged that the fan fell on the head of a junior doctor due to poor maintenance of the nearly 100-yr-old hospital building and the negligence in ensuring safety of the heritage structure
Chennai: The junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad staged a protest by wearing helmets on the hospital premises after a ceiling fan fell on the head of a colleague on Monday. The doctor sustained injuries and has been admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
According to an ANI report, a woman doctor on duty in the dermatology department was meeting patients for a review when a fan suddenly fell on her head. She got injuries and was bleeding, and was admitted for treatment.
Following this, on Tuesday, other junior doctors started protesting by wearing helmets to draw attention to their demand for maintenance of the building.

The doctors alleged that the fan fell on the head of the junior doctor due to poor maintenance of the hospital building, and negligence in ensuring the safety of the structure. The doctors also submitted a memorandum to the hospital superintendent to look into the issue.
This is not the first time an accident like this happened at Osmania General Hospital. In 2018, three incidents of wall collapse were reported in a row. In one of the incidents, a 21-year-old attendent of a patient suffered injuries. She was immediately administered first aid and was admitted to the same hospital.
Two other wall collapse indcidents were reported from the orthopaedic ward and the outpatient building of the hospital. The building of the Osmania Government Hospital is nearly 100-year-old. It was constructed in 1925. The building has also been notified as a heritage structure.
