Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched an Early Bird Scheme offering a five per cent rebate on property tax till April 30.

The property tax Early Bird Scheme will apply to those who pay property tax by April 30, said N Satyanarayana, Director, Municipal Department. The rebate is just for the current year's tax, not for arrears accumulating from previous years.

Therefore, in 128 municipalities and 13 municipal corporations, property taxpayers will be able to avail of advance payment subsidy by the 30th of this month, said Satyanarayana. Property taxpayers are advised to take advantage of this opportunity and get a discount. 

According to reports, in just two days, the GHMC received Rs 13.9 crore from 34,540 people who paid property taxes online through the civic body's Property Tax Early Bird Scheme.

The civic body has already sent text messages to all property owners with a web link, and those who choose to take advantage of the offer can pay their property tax online at https://www.ghmc.gov.in

The property tax can also be paid at GHMC Citizen Services Centers, MeeSeva Centers, and by bill collectors beginning April 6.

Last year, Siricilla topped the list with a property tax of Rs 698 crore in the financial year, 2021-22. Siricilla municipality topped the list with 99 per cent property tax collection last year. Metpally, Husnabad, Alampur and Korutla are in the following position with 97 per cent tax collection. 

Karimnagar tops the list of municipal councils with 95 per cent property tax collection in the 2021-22 financial year. Less than 60 per cent of property tax payments were recorded in Achampet, Mandamarri and Yellareddy municipalities.
