'Barbarism Normalised In New India': KT Rama Rao Urges PM Modi To Intervene In Manipur

KT Rama Rao said the incident in Manipur where a video of two women being paraded naked went viral was an alarming reminder that such acts should not be tolerated in any civilised society.

Expressing concern over the Manipur video in which two women were paraded naked, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and take necessary action to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Manipur.

In a tweet, Minister KTR said, "We Indians were raging against the Taliban when they were disrespecting children and women. Now, in our own country, Kuki women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted by the Meitei mob in Manipur is a distressing and nauseous reminder of how barbarism has been normalised in new India !! All this horrifying violence and complete breakdown of law and order while the Union Govt watches in absolute silence. Where are you PM @narendramodi Ji and HM @AmitShah Ji while every shred of dignity in Manipur is burning? Please set aside everything and use all your time and energy to #SaveManipur."

KTR stated that the incident, which took place on May 4, a day after ethnic violence broke out, was an alarming reminder that such acts should not be tolerated in any civilised society.

The minister called upon Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah to prioritise the matter and take immediate action to restore peace and order in Manipur.

"As responsible citizens of India, it is our collective responsibility to stand against any form of violence and safeguard the dignity and safety of all individuals, regardless of their region or community," said KTR.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the media at Parliament complex before the start of the Monsoon session, said the incident insulted the entire country and "140 crore countrymen are feeling ashamed".

"I want to assure the countrymen that no guilty will be spared. Law will act with its full might and firmness... What has happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven," PM Modi said.

"I want to assure the countrymen that no guilty will be spared. Law will act with its full might and firmness... What has happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven," PM Modi further said.
