Hyderabad: 25 Students Hospitalised After Falling Ill Due To Gas Leak At College Laboratory

The incident was reported from Kasturba Gandhi Junior Women’s College in Hyderabad. All students are out of danger.

Twenty-five students were hospitalised on Friday after they fell sick allegedly due to gas leak from a laboratory at a college in Telangana's Hyderabad. The incident was reported from Kasturba Gandhi Junior Women’s College, East Maredpally in Hyderabad, reported ANI.

Forensic teams have reached the spot to ascertain which gas got leaked ,PTI report further said. All students are out of danger.

Speaking to Tv9 Telugu, a doctor of Geetha Nursing Home in Secunderabad said, "At least 25-30 people were admitted with difficulty in breathing. Out of them, we have seen two or three troublesome cases but the rest have been sent home with some first aid. The two-three people are going to be under observation for six hours. It's nothing serious. An unknown gas leaked at the chemistry lab and it was not acceptable for the system."

In May, Vishakapatnam was witness to one of the deadliest gas leaks since the Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984. Styrene gas had leaked from LG Polymers factory located on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the early morning hours. The leak left almost eight dead and more than hundred were hospitalised.

The styrene gas, also known as PVC gas, affected several areas, including RRV Puram, Venkatapuram, BC Colony, Padmapuram, and Kamparapalem. The gas leak brought back memories of the Bhopal gas tragedy, which took place more than 35 years ago, killing thousands of people.
