Central Team To Visit Telangana Today For Damage Assessment After Heavy Rain, Floods: Union Minister Kishan Reddy

The team will be led by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Advisor Kunal Satyarthi and will consist of representatives of various ministries.

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will be visiting Telangana to assess the damage caused by floods following heavy rainfall in the state. Union Minister and state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy made this announcement, and criticised the Telangana government for not adequately addressing the gravity of the situation, PTI reported. He urged the state government to utilise the funds amounting to Rs 900 crore, which were contributed by the central government and are lying with the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), for relief measures.

"The state government is completely ignorant of the situation though it is having funds up to Rs 900 crore which was also contributed by the central government. From today, Central teams will be visiting flood-affected areas to assess the damage and discuss with the senior officials of the state government. I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister on behalf of Telangana BJP," he said.

The IMCT, led by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Advisor Kunal Satyarthi, will include representatives from various ministries and departments like Agriculture, Finance, Jal Shakti, Power, Road Transport, Highways, and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

During the past week, heavy rain in Telangana resulted in at least 18 deaths. However, relief work has gained momentum as the rainfall subsided in many parts of the state.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been supervising the relief operations and coordinating with ministers and the Chief Secretary to address the situation.

The Central team's visit is scheduled to begin on Monday, and based on their assessment of the damage and the state government's detailed memorandum, a second visit may be undertaken later.

The heavy rain led to the flooding of low-lying areas and caused damage to agricultural fields in several places across the state.

As per the Hyderabad Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in isolated areas of several districts. Specifically, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad districts are likely to experience heavy rains from 8.30 AM on August 1 to 8.30 AM on August 2.
