WhatsApp New Feature: iOS Users Might Soon Not Be Able To Take Screenshots Of Others' Profile Pictures

The beta version 24.10.10.70 of WhatsApp for iOS has teased this new privacy feature, which is expected to roll out to the public version in the coming months.

WhatsApp is addressing the issue of iPhone users who have a habit of taking screenshots of others' profile pictures. The messaging platform introduced the ability to block this action on Android earlier this year, and now, it is extending this blocking feature to iPhone users. Simply put, WhatsApp users on iOS, specifically in the beta version, now have the option to prevent others from capturing screenshots of their profile picture, marking a significant enhancement in security. Taking a screenshot can be considered a serious breach of privacy, and often, individuals are unaware when someone does so with their picture.

While WhatsApp allows users to set profile pictures, concerns have long been raised regarding the lack of privacy if someone attempts to screenshot these photos, potentially leading to misuse or privacy violations.

The beta version 24.10.10.70 of WhatsApp for iOS has teased this new privacy feature, which is expected to roll out to the public version in the coming months. WhatsApp has already demonstrated the effectiveness of this feature on Android, and now, the same protection will be extended to iPhone users attempting to capture profile pictures. Additionally, Facebook offers a Profile Picture Guard tool that prevents others from taking screenshots of the photo, providing an extra layer of security and privacy protection.

How Will This Feature Work

The messaging application will initially display a black screen instead of capturing the photo, accompanied by a message informing the owner with the notice, "Can't take a screenshot due to app restrictions." It appears that WhatsApp will not provide the option to toggle this privacy feature, meaning users won't be able to manually adjust the privacy settings even if they wish to do so.

Moreover, WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new audio call bar that will enable users to easily initiate or end WhatsApp calls without navigating to the main interface. Additionally, the messaging platform aims to assist users in managing device storage by organising WhatsApp data efficiently.
