New Delhi: In a tragic incident, 11 people, including two children, lost their lives, who came in contact with a live wire, during a temple car procession in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, With several leaders expressing their anguish and grief over the tragic incident, PM Modi announced Rs 2 lakh and CM MK Stalin announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the bereaved families. The Tamil Nadu assembly on Wednesday observed a two-minute silence for the people who lost their lives in the electrocution mishap.
Stalin met the families of the deceased in Thanjavur and handed over Rs 5 lakh cheques to the kin. Later, he met the injured, who were admitted to a hospital in Thanjavur and announced the relief amount to the people, who suffered gruesome injuries in the electrocution tragedy.

Informing the media that the government has ordered officials to take action on the issue. Meanwhile, the CM has constituted a one-man panel headed by Kumar Jayant, who is the Principal Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management, to inquire into the chariot electrocution tragedy.
"It is a tragic and painful incident. We have ordered govt officials to take action on this issue. I have conveyed my condolences to the bereaved families. Govt will give Rs 1 lakh each to the severely injured and Rs 50,000 each to injured," Stalin said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

He also inspected the spot where the tragic incident took place. According to a report in ABP Desam, villagers told that 50 people could survive due to water stagnation they couldn't participate in the procession and remained at some distance.
