Salam does not have a job and he got habituated to gambling. Later, he exhausted all his money and borrowed money from money lender Santhanakumar for gambling. In the years, he lost all the money to gambling and his total sum with interest amounted to Rs 80,000.

Therefore, he decided to sell their child to his relative Arokiyaraj without the consent of his wife for Rs 80,000 for settling the debt.

He gave the baby away on January 19 following which Kairunisha gave a complaint to the police on January 23. Kairunisha gave a complaint against her husband and two others for their involvement in the sale of her child.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested Salam, Sanathanakumar and Arokiyaraj under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. The baby was rescued from Arokiyaraj and was handed over to the mother.
