Earlier in the day, Gandhi was in Kerala. He arrived at Coimbatore Airport on Saturday to visit his Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after the restoration of his parliamentary membership. A few months back, Gandhi was disqualified as an MP following an order in his 'Modi surname' remark case, however, now the Supreme Court gave a stay order against that judgement due to which the Congress leader's membership of the Parliament got restored.
Gandhi earlier hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament over the ongoing violence in Manipur. Gandhi on Friday said that the Prime Minister is "refusing to stop" the violence which is going on in Manipur as he wants the fire to rage on. He further alleged that PM Modi is watching the state burn. The Congress leader then talked about his remarks in the Lok Sabha that he gave while mentioning Mother India. Those remarks later got expunged. While talking about the backlash, he said, he "cannot even say the word Bharat Mata" in Parliament.
While talking to the media, he said, "I watched the Prime Minister speak for two hours laughing, joking, and raising slogans... He seems to have forgotten that Manipur is on fire and has been on fire for four months. Women and children are dying over there people are being murdered women are being molested and raped. The Prime Minister is sitting in Parliament shamelessly laughing. This is not about the Opposition it is about India it is about our country."
He added, "A state has been disseminated. It has happened because of the government's divide and rule and burn policy, that is why I said Bharat Mata has been murdered in Manipur."
