WATCH: IndiGo Flight From Chennai Receives Water Cannon Salute At Tiruchirappalli's New Integrated Terminal

In a grand celebration marking the operational launch of Tiruchirappalli International Airport's new integrated terminal, an IndiGo aircraft arriving from Chennai was welcomed with a customary water salute on Tuesday. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) staff extended a warm welcome to passengers arriving at the integrated terminal which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January of this year.

The construction of the new terminal started in February 2019. The terminal, spanning 75,000 square meters over two levels, is designed to accommodate 4.45 million passengers annually. It features 60 check-in counters and 104 immigration counters, with 60 designated for arrivals and 44 for departures.

Talking to the Hindu, Tiruchi International Airport Director P. Subramani highlighted the day's schedule, noting that the first overseas flight operated by IndiGo from Singapore would arrive at 6:40 a.m. This was followed by the departure of the first domestic flight from the new terminal to Bengaluru at 7:40 a.m.

The statement read, "The new terminal hosts state-of-the-art amenities and features for passenger convenience."

The release further detailed that the new terminal building includes 60 check-in counters, 5 baggage carousels, 60 arrival immigration counters, and 44 departure emigration counters.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport ranks as the second largest airport in Tamil Nadu for international passenger traffic, following Chennai.
