Uttarakhand Elections: Rahul Gandhi Holds Meeting With Senior Leaders, In Fix Over Selection Of State President

According to sources, Uttarakhand Congress's former Chief Minister Harish Rawat is being considered to head the party's election campaign committee.

Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday held discussions with senior party leaders over preparations related to the Uttarakhand assembly elections. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi first held a meeting with former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Pradesh Congress Committee President Pritam Singh.

Then he held separate meetings with former state president Kishor Upadhyay and the party's national secretary Muhammad Nizamuddin and Prakash Joshi.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi also met Congress state in-charge Devendra Yadav, Ganesh Godiyal, Navprabhat, and Bhuvan Kapri. The names of Ganesh Godiyal, Navprabhat, Bhuvan Kapri, and Kishor Upadhyay are among the leaders who are being considered as the contenders for the new President of the State Congress Committee.

A senior Congress leader said: "Purpose of this meeting by Rahul Gandhi is to review the election preparations and formulate a strategy. He has asked all the leaders for their opinion on steps to be taken by Congress to defeat BJP in the upcoming elections."

No Decision About Selection Of State President

If sources are to be believed, the state president has not been chosen yet because both Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh want a leader close to them to get the command of Uttarakhand Congress.

Senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh passed away recently, leaving the post of Legislature Party leader vacant. If Pritam Singh is given the command of the leader of the legislature party, a Brahmin leader may be selected as the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee.

Uttarakhand Congress's former Chief Minister Harish Rawat is being considered to head the party's election campaign committee. However, his supporters are lobbying to project him as chief minister.

When asked about the Chief Minister, Devendra Yadav had said on Monday, "the decision on Chief Minister's candidature will be taken in time. We don't want to make Uttarakhand a laboratory for changing Chief Ministers like BJP. We will come up with a solution that gives a vision for the state."

Assembly elections are proposed in Uttarakhand in February-March next year.
