A bus conductor identified as Mohit Yadav, who was recently dismissed for halting a bus to facilitate prayers for two passengers in Bareilly, on Monday ended his life by leaping in front of a train in his hometown, Mainpuri. The incident unfolded after allegations against Yadav surfaced for stopping the bus on the night of June 3 to allow passengers to offer Namaz. A video of the incident went viral after a fellow passenger shared it on X, formerly Twitter.

The circulation of the video led to the termination of Yadav's contract. Distressed by his job loss, he returned to his home in Mainpuri, where he took his own life by leaping in front of a train on Monday.

Viral Video Led To Dismissal Of Bus Driver, Conductor

Mohit Yadav was employed as a conductor in a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus. On June 3, he was aboard a Janrath bus from Bareilly Depot that was en route from Satellite Bus Stand to Kaushambi, with K.P. Singh as the driver. Before departing Bareilly, both the driver and the conductor briefly halted the bus. Passengers questioned the sudden stop and they were told that it was done to accommodate two Muslim passengers who wanted to offer prayers.

Amidst the commotion, a passenger named Satendra captured a video of another passenger, who was preparing to pray. Satendra later shared the video on social media platforms and lodged a complaint with the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation via X, formerly Twitter.

In the video, passengers could be heard complaining about stopping the bus on the road at night for two passengers. Denying a communal angle, the said individuals stressed that something untoward could happen threatening the safety of all people inside the bus.

Subsequently, ARD (Additional Regional Director) Sanjeev Srivastava, based on the directions of ARD Deepak Chaudhary, terminated the contracts of both the driver, K.P. Singh, and the conductor, Mohit Yadav.

The incident has prompted debates over religious accommodation and workplace repercussions. While Mainpuri Railway Police are conducting an investigation into Yadav's suicide, the events have underscored the complexities of such situations.
