After being detained for assaulting a police officer, two of the five accused from Uttar Pradesh decided to take things a step further and shot at three police officers while being brought for a medical check-up. On Monday, after a youngster was ran over by a speeding bus in Mahoba, some 260 kilometres from Lucknow, a police officer who was part of a squad sent to disperse an angry mob and alleviate a traffic gridlock was beaten up. A video of the incident went viral on social media. The team's other members had departed. The police later filed a report and arrested five people.
On their way to a hospital for a medical check-up on Tuesday, the accused and police officers from Mahoba's Panwari police station had a washroom break. This is when two of the five accused, Parshuram, 45, and Monu, 22, grabbed the firearms of two police officers and began fire.
When the police returned fire, Sub-Inspector Surendra and Constables Ankit Singh and Mithun suffered injuries and the two men were shot in the legs. All five have been taken to the hospital.

A case had been registered against five people for misbehaving with and beating up a policeman on Monday, said Mahoba Superintendent of Police Aparna Gupta. According to Aparna Gupta, when the sub-inspector was beaten up, he was attempting to clear a traffic bottleneck. They were being escorted for a medical examination when they grabbed the guns of several police officers and began fire. Minor injuries have been sustained by a sub-inspector and two constables.
