Kolkata Shanties Engulfed in Blaze, Dozens Left Homeless

In a separate incident, a major fire engulfed shanties in the Anandapur area of southeastern Kolkata on Sunday morning. While no casualties were reported, the blaze wrought significant destruction, leaving around 50 families homeless, as per PTI's report.

The fire, first noticed around 10:30 am, quickly spread through the makeshift dwellings, fueled by what is believed to be an LPG cylinder blast. Eleven fire tenders rushed to the scene, battling the flames for an hour before successfully extinguishing them.

Local residents, alongside firefighting personnel, worked tirelessly to contain the fire and evacuate those in harm's way. Eyewitnesses recounted hearing explosions, possibly from LPG cylinders, as the fire rapidly spread through the shanties.

Expressing her anguish, Minati Dasi, one of the affected residents, lamented, "We have lost everything in the fire. The jewellery for my daughter’s wedding."
