CM Adityanath Mandates Affidavit For Conducting Religious Processions, Seeks Strict Compliance

Additionally, leaves of all police and administrative officials have been cancelled till May 4 and those already on leave have been asked to join within the next 24 hours.

New Delhi: In view of several incidents of communal violence during the occasions of Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti in various parts of the country, the Uttar Pradesh government has mandated prior permission for taking out religious procession across the state.

In a tweet the Chief Minister’s Office stated that organisers will have to produce an affidavit ensuring peace and harmony before seeking permission.

“Permission should be given to only those religious processions, which are traditional, new events should not be given unnecessary permission,” it said further.

Installation and use of microphones, however, has been allowed but with a condition that the microphone’s sound should not cross the premises causing inconvenience to others.

The decision was taken in a review meeting held by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with police officials to review the law and order situation in the state.

“There are many important religious festivals in the coming days. The festival of Eid and Akshaya Tritiya are likely to be on the same day. In such a situation, police will have to be extra sensitive in view of the present environment,” the CM said during the meeting.

“The leave of all administrative/police officers from SHO, CO and Police Captain to District Magistrate Divisional Commissioner will be cancelled with immediate effect. Who are currently on leave, return to the place of posting within the next 24 hours,” Adityanath said.

“Tehsildar, SDM, SHO or CO etc. should all take rest in the area of their posting. If you have government accommodation then stay there or take a rented accommodation, but stay in your own area at night. Strict compliance of this arrangement should be ensured,” he added.

The CM also said to increase deployment of police force in sensitive areas and to monitor the situation using drones. “Every day in the evening the police force must do foot patrolling. PRV 112 be active,” he added.
