'Bangladesh-Like Situation In 1947': UP CM Adityanath Participates In Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

Addressing an event, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said that what happened in 1947 is happening again in present-day Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that the situation during the 1947 partition is similar to what is happening in Bangladesh and Pakistan. He remarked during an event on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

The UP CM's statement came as reports of attacks on the minority Hindu community came from Bangladesh amid the civil unrest in the country after the ouster of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"What happened in 1947, the same is happening in Pakistan even now, the same is happening in Bangladesh which used to be known as East Pakistan," he said during the event in Lucknow.

"That time 10 lakh Hindus were killed together and today, the same arson, vandalisation, looting and atrocities against sisters and daughters are happening...when will we learn a lesson from the mistakes in history," he said further.

The UP CM also participated in a silent march on the occasion in the state's capital city which was organised from Sardar Patel Statue to Lok Bhavan.

The Modi government has been observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day since 2021 every year on August 14 in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the country's partition.

While making the announcement then, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the day would be observed to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of people as the pain of partition can never be forgotten.

On Wednesday, he took to social media platform X to "recall the countless people who were impacted and greatly suffered due to the horrors of Partition."

"It is also a day to pay tributes to their courage, which illustrates the power of human resilience. A lot of those impacted by Partition went on to rebuild their lives and attain immense success. Today, we also reiterate our commitment to always protect the bonds of unity and brotherhood in our nation," the PM said.
