Man Held For Impersonating UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s Secretary To Dupe Govt Officials, Probe On

UP News: The Special Task Force (STF) of the UP Police arrested a notorious criminal for allegedly impersonating the chief minister’s secretary.

UP News: A man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly impersonating the secretary of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and duping government officials over the phone.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a notorious criminal for allegedly impersonating the chief minister’s secretary, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. The accused, identified as Vivek Sharma alias Bantu Chaudhary, who used to dupe administrative officials and the general public by making fake phone calls in the name of the CM’s secretary, was arrested in Basti district, the STF said in a statement.

Vivek confessed that a few days ago, in order to cheat the district magistrate and chief development officer of Basti, he called on their official numbers and introduced himself as the secretary of the chief minister, PTI reported, citing police sources. It was also discovered that the mobile number of the accused, in the mobile application 'True-Caller', appeared as “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath”.

A case has been registered against Vivek under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 384 (punishment for extortion), and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the IPC in Basti’s Kotwali police station. The accused in the case is being questioned.

Several cases have been registered against him in various police stations in Aligarh, Balrampur, Mathura, Kanpur Nagar, and Hardoi districts on charges of fraud, among others, the STF said in the statement, PTI reported. 

Meanwhile, in another incident, the UP Police arrested six people on Sunday for their alleged involvement in leaking the examination paper for the posts of review officers and assistant review officers. The arrests were made in Prayagraj, the STF said in a statement.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the UP Police arrested six members of a gang, including a staff member of a printing press, for their alleged involvement in the paper leak, as reported by news agency PTI. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections. 

The exam is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). It was held across the state on February 11. Following reports of a paper leak, the state government cancelled the exam on March 2.
