Goal Of Business Organisations Should Be Development Of Society, Country: President In Uttar Pradesh

Speaking on climate change issue, he said that the union government has announced in CoP-26 (Conference of Parties) Summit, that by 2030, India will reduce its carbon emissions by one billion tonne.

New Delhi: Calling on the industries to contribute towards the society, President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday said that the goal of a business organisation should not just be the benefit of its employees but also the development of society and the country. Kovind, while speaking at the 90th year celebrations of the Merchants Chamber in Kanpur, appealed to the industries to contribute towards making India a net-zero emission economy, news agency PTI reported.

President Kovind said that since its inception, the Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh, as a representative body of industry, trade and commerce, has been promoting industrialisation, trade and entrepreneurship in the state.

"This organisation has been providing a platform for mutual coordination between the business and industry and policymakers," PTI quoted him as saying.

He added, "I am happy to note that the Merchants Chamber is working towards women empowerment and promotion of start-ups."

He said, "The objective of a business organisation should not just be benefit of its members but it should also become a participant in the all-round development of society and the country."

The President also urged the gathering to go to villages, and contribute to their social development by adopting them as individuals or a group.

Speaking on the climate change issue, he said that the union government has announced in CoP-26 (Conference of Parties) Summit, that by 2030, India will reduce its carbon emissions by one billion tonne and also try to become a net-zero emission economy by 2070.

He said that for reaching this target, the cooperation of industries is very important and added that several companies around the world are already contributing to zero carbon economy.

Thus, it is expected from the representatives of industry and business that they will not only work towards reducing pollution in existing industries, but also contribute towards establishing new environment-friendly industries, President Kovind added.
