The four-day police custody of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's killers ends on Sunday (April 23). A Prayagraj court remanded the three people in police custody for four days on April 19.

The four-day police detention of the killers of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed ends on Sunday (April 23). A Prayagraj court remanded the three people in police custody for four days on April 19. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for today. According to the district government advocate Gulab Chandra Agrahari, after issuing the order, the court had committed them to police custody for four days, from 2 pm on Wednesday to 5 pm on Sunday (April 23).

Earlier on Wednesday, Lovelesh Tiwari, Mohit, and Arun Kumar Maurya appeared in court amid tight security as the police sought a seven-day remand.

Last week, Atiq Ahmad (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction, while police were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

An FIR was filed at Shahganj police station under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and the Arms Act against the three alleged assailants of Atiq and Ashraf.

On Sunday, the three accused were brought before a remand magistrate, who sentenced them to 14 days in judicial custody. They were initially detained in Naini jail before being transferred to Pratapgarh prison for security reasons.

From Everyday Crime To Murder Of Atiq Ahmed: The Story Of The Three Assialiants

The three men who attacked gangsters Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf while posing as journalists told police they did it to make a name for themselves in the criminal world.

At least two of their names are already on the books of state police stations. But nothing was more audacious than the almost point-blank shooting of the two brothers as they were being escorted into a Prayagraj hospital for a medical check-up on April 15 night, while the cameras were rolling.

The three men have been charged with murder and attempted murder, as well as violating the Arms Act. At least two firearms were recovered from the shooting site.

The accused told police they wanted to make a name for themselves and establish their identity in the state by eliminating Atiq Ahmed's gang, according to the FIR.

According to the FIR, they claimed they couldn't flee because of the quick police response.

According to police, the three assailants had joined the group of reporters attempting to obtain sound bites from the two gangsters. They claimed that the men dropped their cameras and whipped out their arms.
