In a case of forgery that has unfolded, six accused through deceitful means obtained the death certificate of a trader and claimed the insurance policy amount which he was supposed to receive. The hunt for the remaining three accused is underway.

Gujarat Police on Wednesday arrested three members of an interstate gang which was involved in the making of fake death certificates for insurance policy claim money. In a case of forgery that has unfolded, six accused through deceitful means obtained the death certificate of a trader and claimed the insurance policy amount which he was supposed to receive. The hunt for remaining three accused is underway. Gujarat Gandhinagar ACP, Pradeepsinh Jadeja, told news agency ANI on Thursday that a businessman in Ahmedabad named Ramchandra Harilal Patel took a policy in 2009 and paid the premium for the same till 2012. However, when he thought of closing his policy in 2020 then he got to know that someone had already claimed his insurance money worth Rs 15 lakhs by submitting his death certificate.

ACP Jadeja told ANI, "In 2009, a man took an insurance policy and paid premium till 2012. In 2020, he wanted to close the policy and he went to the office and he got to know that by submitting his death certificate, somebody received Rs 15 lakhs. He contacted the Police. Probe was conducted and 3 accused namely Farukh Hussain, Rohit Kumar and Sunil Shankar Swarup were arrested...3 more accused are yet to be caught."

ACP Jadeja added that all accused in this case were arrested back in 2021 for the same modus operandi.

"Farukh Hussain is a resident of Gujarat and prepared the death certificate. Money was given by Rohit Kumar. All these accused through the same modus operandi were caught in 2021 which was confirmed by the crime branch in Ahmedabad. Another accused Chirag Ganesh Parmar opened a fake account in the name of his wife and withdrew the money then." he said.

The ACP further said that another accused Rajesh Rathode from Ahmedabad along with Rohit Kumar approached Farukh Hussain and obtained the fake death certificate.

This fraud of trying to claim insurance money by presenting a fake death certificate has been ongoing for a long time. Earlier in March, three people were arrested in Mumbai after they allegedly tried to dupe an insurance company by claiming a claim amount of Rs 2 crore by furnishing a fake death certificate, reported PTI.
