Patna High Court has granted bail to Bihar YouTuber Manish Kashyap who was arrested in March this year for circulating fake videos of migrant labourers of Bihar in Tamil Nadu.
In a big relief to Bihar's YouTuber Manish Kashyap, the Patna High Court has granted him bail in connection with the case where he was arrested for making fake videos on migrant labourers of Bihar in Tamil Nadu. Kashyap is presently lodged in the state's Beur jail in Patna. His lawyer has confirmed the grant of bail. Manish was arrested in March this year for posting fake videos of migrant labourers being attacked in Tamil Nadu. He has got bail in two cases related to the matter.
He was previously summoned several times which he skipped. Later, he surrendered at Jagdishpur police station in Bettiah in March. He is a resident of Bettiah.
He had targeted Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav after he was jailed. Manish had said that CM Nitish Kumar talks about the freedom of journalists. While targeting Tejashwi Yadav, he said that he was not afraid and would continue his fight, because he is not the son of a fodder thief.
Kashyap is a well-known name in Bihar. Apart from being a YouTuber, he has also tried his hands in politics. Manish tried his luck in the Bihar Assembly elections held in the year 2020 and contested from the Chanpatia seat. However, he lost the polls.
Earlier, Madurai police in Tamil Nadu had booked him under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). In May this year, the Supreme Court refused to entertain his plea against the NSA.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala declined to hear the plea. Kashyap was arrested in Bihar after he surrendered at Jagdishpur police station on March 18 and was later brought to Tamil Nadu where NSA was invoked against him in April.
The bench, however, granted Kashyap the liberty to challenge the invocation of the NSA at an appropriate judicial forum. It also rejected the plea for clubbing all 19 FIRs against him and their transfer to Bihar, news agency PTI reported.
