Bihar: Yoga Guru Ramdev Booked For 'Anti-Islam Barbs', Accusing Muslims Of Abducting Hindu Women

A local court heard Tamanna Hashmi's complaint against Ramdev and ordered the filing of an FIR against him.

New Delhi: A rights activist based in Bihar filed a complaint against yoga guru Ramdev on Saturday for allegedly hurting Muslims' religious feelings with his remarks at a recent meeting of seers, reported news agency PTI. A local court heard Tamanna Hashmi's complaint against Ramdev and ordered the filing of an FIR against him. The yoga guru had made comparisons between Hinduism and Islam and Christianity at a meeting of seers on Friday in Barmer, Rajasthan, where Muslims were accused of using terror to kidnap Hindu women.

After filing the complaint with the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Muzaffarpur, Hashmi told reporters, "Ramdev’s statement against Muslims and Islam is objectionable and it has hurt their sentiments."

Ramdev made remarks at a meeting of seers on February 3 in which he compared Hinduism to Islam and Christianity and accused Muslims of using terror to kidnap Hindu women.

He alleged that Hinduism taught its adherents to do good, whereas the two faiths were obsessed with conversion.

"Muslims offer namaz five times a day and then do whatever they want. They kidnap Hindu girls and commit all kinds of sins. Our Muslim brothers commit a lot of sins but they definitely offer namaz as they are taught to do so. Hindu religion is not like this," he said at the gathering in Barmer on Thursday.

On social media, a video of his speech has surfaced.

"I am not criticising anyone but people are obsessed only with this. Some people talk about converting the entire world to Islam and others want to convert the world to Christianity," Ramdev said.

He asserted that these religions had no other purpose.

He continued his attack on Muslims by claiming that despite offering namaz, they become terrorists or criminals. Additionally, he referred to the attire of orthodox community members.

He claimed that Hinduism teaches people to avoid dishonesty and violence.

"Wake up early in the morning, pray to God, do yoga, do good work and good deeds by worshiping your deity. This is what Hindu religion and Sanatan Dharma teach us,” Ramdev said.
