Gangrape Victim Barred From Attending School And Appearing For Class 12 Board Exams In Rajasthan's Ajmer

The victim and her father revealed that the school removed her name and issued a transfer certificate, preventing her from appearing for her board examinations.

New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a class 12 student of a private school in Ajmer, Rajasthan, could not take her board examinations as her school principal banned her from attending classes after she was allegedly gang-raped, stating that her presence would “spoil the atmosphere”, officials said on Friday. The victim and her father revealed that the school removed her name and issued a transfer certificate, preventing her from appearing for her board examinations. Their plight came to light when they approached Anjali Sharma, president of the District Child Welfare Committee, reported news agency PTI.

“The girl did not know how to deal with this. She got in touch with a government school teacher who told her to call the child helpline number. They told them to contact the District Child Welfare Committee,” Sharma said. She further revealed that the victim in her complaint said that the school principal told her not to attend the classes as her presence would “spoil the atmosphere”, PTI reported.

As per reports, the girl was allegedly gang-raped in October last year and the accused were arrested. The victim revealed that following the incident, the school principal told her not to return to school, citing concerns about disrupting the school atmosphere. Consequently, she refrained from attending school. However, when she reached out to the school before the half-year exams in December, she was informed that her name had been removed, Sharma said.

Following the complaint forwarded by Sharma to the district collector and education department, an inquiry was promptly conducted by the district education officer on Friday. Chief District Education Officer Om Shankar Verma stated that the inquiry revealed the school had issued the transfer certificate (TC) against the rules, forcibly cutting the victim's name. Verma said that such actions were against norms. The inquiry report will be escalated to the director for further necessary actions in the matter, he added.
