Maharashtra ATS Arrests Man Over Links With Pakistani Intelligence Operative

The individual maintained contact with the PIO via Facebook and WhatsApp from November 2021 to May 2023. During this period, he purportedly disclosed restricted area details multiple times.

New Delhi: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a 30-year-old man from Navi Mumbai, for allegedly sharing information about restricted areas in the country with a Pakistan-based intelligence operative (PIO), the ATS said on Monday. According to ATS reports, the individual maintained contact with the PIO via Facebook and WhatsApp from November 2021 to May 2023. During this period, he purportedly disclosed restricted area details multiple times, prompting serious security concerns, the ATS said in a release. 

The accused, residing in Navi Mumbai, adjacent to the state capital, has been implicated for divulging information concerning restricted areas in India to the PIO, as stated by authorities. A case has been registered against both the individual and the PIO, with the Navi Mumbai unit of the ATS spearheading further investigations into the matter, according to the release, reported news agency PTI.

Maharashtra ATS Arrested 32-Year-Old Nashik Engineer Over 'ISIS links'

Earlier, in a similar case, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) took action by filing a case against a resident of Nashik for allegedly engaging in communication and fund transfers with an ISIS-affiliated foreign entity. The operation, which took place on Jan 24, resulted in the seizure of electronic devices such as mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, and pen drives, along with incriminating documents.

The case has been filed under sections 39(1)(a) and 40(1)(b)(c) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967. According to the ATS investigation, the accused maintained continuous communication with a foreign entity associated with ISIS, an organization proscribed and banned by the Government of India, as per PTI.

The case filed under sections 39(1)(a), 40(1)(b)(c) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967. According to the ATS investigation, the accused "maintained continuous communication with a foreign entity associated with ISIS, a proscribed organisation banned by the Government of India".
