Kali Puja 2023: Kolkata Police Issues Traffic Advisory For Smooth Transportation Of Idols. Check Details

The commissioner of Kolkata Police issued an order pertaining to the lifting of idols between November 9 and 12.

New Delhi: With the City of Joy gearing up for unbridled revelry and crowding of major thoroughfares around Kali Puja and Diwali, the Kolkata Police on Thursday announced a traffic advisory to beat snarls and ensure public safety.

The commissioner of Kolkata Police issued an order pertaining to the lifting of idols of Goddess Kali between November 9 and 12. The order was issued on the basis of the standing traffic rules and regulations that are already in place.

As per the advisory, no heavy commercial or goods vehicles, barring those ferrying idols of Goddess Kali to their designated moorings, can ply on Rabindra Setu, between 4pm and 5pm on these days.

Further, other vehicles might also be barred from plying north on Rabindra Sarani from the intersection with Galif Street, if needed, the Kolkata Police Commissioner stated in his order.

The order further stipulates that from 10 pm on November 9 to 5 am on November 12, heavy commercial vehicles not carrying idols will have to ply on alternative routes — Strand Road, Nimtala Ghat Street, BK Pal Avenue, JM Avenue and Girish Avenue.

The advisory, however, allows goods vehicles ferrying idols to park on the west of Rabindra Sarani — from Sovabazar Street to Bagbazar Street.

However, no other vehicle would be allowed to park on Strand Bank Road, between Sovabazar Street and DC Banerjee Road, as well as Madan Mohan Tala Road, as per the advisory. The rule is aimed at ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted transportation of idols to their designated pandals on these days.

Further, barring those carrying idols of Goddess Kali, no other vehicle would be allowed to drive north on Kalighat Road, from Hazra Road and Kalighat Road crossing.

However, vehicles marked for the sole purpose of lifting and unloading idols would be allowed unfettered movement through the city streets on these days.
