No Govt Job For Rape Accused, Sahitya Akademi Award: Chhattisgarh CM On Announcement Spree In I-Day Speech

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel made as many as 15 announcements during his address at the Independence Day function in Raipur.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said the safety of women and maintaining their dignity was the top priority for the state as he made as many as 15 announcements during his address at the Independence Day function in Raipur. Chhattisgarh goes to polls later this year along with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram.

Baghel said those accused in cases of rape, molestation and other crimes against women would be barred from government jobs in the state even as he attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Independence Day speech from Red Fort. 

"The occasion of August 15 should not be used as a political opportunity," the CM said.

Here are all the announcements that the Chief Minister made on Independence Day:

Independence Day: 15 Announcements Made By Chhattisgarh CM Baghel Ahead Of Elections

  • Women's Safety: Accused in cases of rape, molestation and other crimes against women and girls will be barred from government jobs in the state.
  • For Litterateurs: CM Baghel said litterateurs would be honoured with the 'Chhattisgarh Sahitya Akademi Samman' in three categories -
    • For literature written in Chhattisgarhi, and other dialects such as Gondi, Halbi, Sargujia, Kurukh, etc
    • For poetry written in Hindi
    • For prose written in Hindi
      All the awardees under these categories will get a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a letter of appreciation
  • For Sports: In the state-level competition 'Chhattisgarhiya Olympics', the state government announced that the participants who secure first place in the age group 18-40 in long jump, 100 metres race and wrestling will be declared "outstanding players". This provision will be implemented this year itself.
  • Silkworm and Honey bees farming: Silkworm and bee farming will now be given agriculture status in the state.
  • Employment: In order to encourage poultry farming, new schemes and self-employment opportunities, the state government announced the launch of 'Chhattisgarh Poultry Promotion Scheme'. Under this scheme, electricity will be made available to the farmers at subsidised rates.
  • Education: The CM said students of classes 11 and 12 in government schools located in remote areas of the state would be provided free online coaching from renowned institutes of the country for preparation of medical and engineering competitive exams. For this, coaching classes will be arranged at every development block headquarters.
  • Every district will have one college in which post-graduate classes will be available. 
  • AI, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things (IoT) to be included in the curriculum for students.
  •  Students of government colleges will be provided free bus pick up and drop facilities between their homes and colleges.
  • Local dialects such as Chhattisgarhi and dialects spoken in Adivasi-dominated regions to become a part of the school curriculum in those regions.
  • The salary of women sanitation workers will be increased by 20 per cent.
  • 'Mukhyamantri Nirman Shramik Pension Sahayata Yojana' has been launched to provide pension to construction workers. Construction workers who have completed 60 years of age and have been registered for 10 years will be given a monthly pension of Rs 1,500.
  • Salary of one-time contract training officers working in industrial training institutes to be increased from Rs 25,780 to Rs 32,740 and the maximum payment limit of guest lecturers will be increased from Rs 13,000 to Rs 15,000.
  • Rs 500 will be increased in the salaries of part-time sanitation workers and cooks who prepare mid-day meal.
  • Salary of the members of community working groups in urban areas to see a rise of 20 per cent.
