'Govt There To Maintain...': VHP Amid Fears Of Fresh Violence In Nuh Yatra, Haryana Seals Borders

New Delhi: Even as Nuh district administration denied permission for a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) yatra on Monday, a member of the organisation on Sunday said the procession will be taken out peacefully, news agency ANI reported. Dispelling fears of fresh violence, VHP leader Alok Kumar said the government and the local administration were there to maintain law and order.

Speaking to the news agency, Kumar said, “We are aware that G20 Summit is going to start and so we will shorten the yatra. But we will not abandon the procession altogether and will take it out as scheduled tomorrow. I will personally take part in the yatra.”

“Why should there be law and order problem? The government and local administration are there to maintain law and order, thus, enabling all religious events to be held peacefully. We will take out the rally peacefully and the administration will be there to maintain law and order,” the VHP leader added.  

Speaking on the security arrangements, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata told PTI, "We have directed schools, colleges and banks to remain shut on August 28. Borders have also been sealed to avoid any untoward situation."

Meanwhile, reacting to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s remarks that the governors of BJP-ruled Haryana and Manipur were “silent” on the law and order issue, Mann’s Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said his state is “safe”, news agency PTI reported.

Mann had earlier slammed Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit for "threatening" to impose President's Rule in the state and said he wanted to know if the Haryana Governor had issued any such notice to CM Khattar over the recent violence in Nuh.

"I want to ask Governor Sahab, has the Haryana Governor issued any notice to Haryana Chief Minister Khattar regarding what happened in Nuh, communal clashes and violence that took place there and curfew had to be imposed? Did the Haryana governor write any letter to Khattar? No, because their government is also ruling at the Centre,” Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had said, as reported by PTI.

Responding to his remarks, CM Khattar, as quoted by PTI, said, “Haryana is safe and nobody should worry about it. If there is a talk of (imposing) President's rule, it is for there (Punjab).”
