Monu Manesar, Cow Vigilante Accused In Nuh Violence & Junaid-Nasir Murder Case, Detained By Haryana Cops

The Crime Investigative Agency of Haryana Police in Nuh has detained Bajrang Dal leader and cow vigilante Monu Manesar.

In a big breakthrough, the Crime Investigative Agency of Haryana Police detained Monu Manesar while he was going to a market in Manesar. The police personnel came in Bolero and Creta and took Manesar into custody. The officials of the Rajasthan police are also in touch with the Haryana police. He has been detained for a case registered in February this year. Notably, Monu Manesar is an accused in the Nuh violence case as well as in the Junaid-Nasir lynching case.

Meanwhile, Bharatpur SP Mridul Kachawa said that Rajasthan Police has received the information about Monu Manesar's detention, and is carrying out further procedures.

"We have received information that Haryana Police has detained Monu Manesar, who is wanted in Nasir and Junaid (lynching) case. Haryana Police is carrying out its further procedure and our officers are in contact with them. When their procedure completes, (our) District Police will begin theirs," he said.

Last month, the Haryana Police said that an SIT will investigate cow vigilante Monu Manesar's video in connection to the violence in Nuh, Haryana. He has been accused of inciting violence in the Nuh district which witnessed massive arson and police deployment later on.

Mohit Yadav alias Monu Manesar is the leader of a cow vigilante group in Haryana's Mewat district. He has been in charge of the Bajrang Dal's campaign against cattle smugglers in Haryana and Rajasthan. The 30-year-old's name made headlines when the murders of alleged cow smugglers Nasir and Junaid in Rajasthan were reported earlier this year. The bodies of the two youths were found in a charred car in Loharu, Haryana's Bhiwani, a day after they were allegedly abducted.

Manesar is on the wanted list of Rajasthan's Bharatpur police. He also participated in efforts to check "love jihad" -- a term coined by rightwing outfits to describe "forcible conversion" of Hindu women by Muslim men.

In 2019, his name first surfaced when he was shot at while pursuing alleged cattle smugglers. In 2015, Manesar was part of a district cow protection task team that was set up by the Haryana government. The Bajrang Dal leader has a huge following on Facebook and YouTube, where he routinely posts pictures of himself showing off his vehicles.
