Delhi Police To Deploy 18,000 Cops To Ensure Safe New Year Celebrations

New Delhi: The Delhi Police announced on Thursday that more than 18,000 members of its district and traffic units will be stationed throughout the national capital to ensure safety during the New Year's celebrations, reported news agency PTI.

"Over 16,500 personnel from local police will be deployed across the city on Saturday in view of the New Year celebrations. This time, there will be anti-terror measures in high footfall areas where local police, in real-time coordination with the Special Cell, has made the arrangements." "Women safety will also be our focus area and more than 2,500 women personnel will be deployed in the city," Special Commissioner of Police (law and order) Dependra Pathak
In addition, Pathak stated that over 1,600 checkpoint pickets, over 1,200 mobile patrol vehicles, and 2,074 bicycles would be deployed.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S S Yadav said, "Around 1,850 personnel from traffic police will be deployed along with local police staff for joint checking. We have identified around 125 points of drunk and drive. The traffic will be restricted to enter Connaught Place after 8 pm on Saturday and only authorised vehicles will be allowed there. Mobile teams will also be placed for checking in the city."

Meanwhile, Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Thursday to ensure smooth vehicular movement on New Year’s Eve.
According to the advisory, the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth traffic regulation across the national capital, especially for areas that fall in the vicinity of Connaught Place.
The restrictions will be imposed from 8 pm on Saturday till the conclusion of New Year celebrations and will be applicable for both public and private vehicles.

As per the advisory, no vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House, Bengali Market, North Foot of Ranjit Singh flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk, RK Ashram Marg- Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market, GPO New Delhi.
