IED Planted By Naxalites Injures 2 CRPF Jawans In Chhattisgarh's Sukma

A pressure IED planted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district caused injuries to two CRPF jawans.

In Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, two security personnel on Monday sustained injuries when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated. The blast occurred at approximately 10:15 am in the Kistaram police station area, where a joint team of security personnel was patrolling to provide security for road construction work, news agency PTI reported an official as informing.

The injured personnel belonged to the Central Reserve Police Force's 217th battalion, the 208th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the CRPF, and the district force. The joint operation aimed to patrol from the Dabbamarka police camp to ensure security for road construction in Saltong village, as reported by PTI.

As the team cordoned off the area near Saltong, two personnel came in contact with the pressure IED connection, leading to the explosion. The injured individuals received preliminary treatment and are being transferred to a hospital. Meanwhile, a search operation is underway in the area.

Naxalites Hack Man to Death in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur District

On December 9, a gruesome incident unfolded in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district as a man, identified as Komal Manjhi, was hacked to death with an axe, allegedly by Naxalites, PTI reported. The victim was attacked while returning home after performing rituals at a goddess temple in Chhotedongar village.

Komal Manjhi, the nephew of a renowned traditional healer in Chhotedongar, had reportedly received death threats from Naxalites in the past. During last month's assembly elections, Manjhi and his uncle, along with others from interior pockets of the district, were shifted to Narayanpur headquarters and kept under protection for their safety, PTI's report mentioned.

However, after the second phase of voting concluded, Manjhi and his uncle returned to their village, declining further protection. The fatal attack occurred soon after, and a police team, upon receiving alerts, reached the spot. Manjhi's body was subsequently moved to a government hospital for post-mortem.

A hand-written note, purportedly written by Maoists, was discovered at the scene, accusing Manjhi of acting as an agent for the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine and amassing significant wealth, the report mentioned.
