Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Health Update: Ex-Bengal CM's Condition Critical But Stable, Hospital Says

Former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is stable on mechanical ventilation, although his condition continues to be critical, the hospital said in a press release.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Health: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is currently on mechanical ventilation, according to a press release issued by the Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital on Sunday (July 30). Although his clinical condition remains critical, there has been no significant deterioration and he is stable, according to the statement.

On July 29, the veteran leader was admitted to the hospital with a lower respiratory tract infection and Type II respiratory failure. According to the statement, medical experts are closely monitoring his condition.

The CT scan report, according to an Indian Express report citing hospital sources, will help the doctors decide their next course of action, and they will get an idea of how long he may have to stay on ventilation. His blood pressure, heart rate, urine volume, and blood oxygen levels are all stable, according to the report.

Due to altered sensorium and poor breathing, Bhattacharjee, who had a lower respiratory tract infection and Type II respiratory failure, was electively intubated and ventilated Saturday night.

Bhattacharjee, who served as chief minister for two consecutive terms from 2000 to 2011, has had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for some time.

According to an IANS report, his health had been deteriorating in recent days. He, however, refused to follow the doctor's advice and was admitted to the hospital. However, his condition has been rapidly deteriorating since Saturday afternoon, and his oxygen saturation level has been rapidly decreasing, the report added.

As a result, the doctors treating him decided to admit him to the hospital as soon as possible. A critical care ambulance dispatched from the hospital transported him to the hospital, according to the report.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has been out of the public eye for several years due to health issues.

He resigned from the CPI(M)'s politburo and central committee in 2015, and he left the state secretariat in 2018.
